Account books, 1861-1883 1861-1876.

This collection consists of twelve volumes of account books once belonging to the Andrews and Son stores for the time period 1861-1876, 1881, and 1883. The businesses were owned and operated by David P. Andrews and his son Charles W. Andrews. The stores were located in Winona City, Minnesota, but moved to Faribault, Minnesota in 1866. The store sold a variety of items throughout its years of existence, including paper hangings, pictures, frames, and toys. The account books contain information on what customers of the store paid for goods, and their account balances at the store. In 1871, Charles Andrews sold his share in the venture to Charles Palmer, who would in turn sell it in 1875. The business continued under the elder Andrews and an unnamed partner until the mid 1880s. The 1881 ledgers show that the business became a general store, and sold groceries, hardware items, books, and stationary.
